Student Generated Honors Project on Smart Textiles
Laura Geller Industry Challenge Winning Project
This semester-long project consisted of research and product development for the Laura Geller Makeup Company. My class worked with Stephanie Nyce, a VP at Laura Geller while working on our projects. My group's idea was to start offering beauty subscription boxes for the Laura Geller customer. We chose this idea because the trends of customization and personalization are so successful and we also wanted to attract a younger customer. After presenting to the Laura Geller team and judges from Immaculata University our group was awarded the Best Project Award.
This honors project was focused on the question, “Why are smart textiles important for medical use?” and was answered in a 28 page paper and a 15 minute presentation. Smart textiles are fabrics that have technology built in and benefit the wearer in some way. They can communicate, transform, monitor health, conduct energy, and more. The more we learn about this type of clothing, the more we can create and think of new innovative ways to alter the way patients receive care in hospitals or in their homes. This information is not only important for the Fashion/Textiles industry but also extremely valuable for the Medical Industry.
Product Line Management Graphic T-Shirt
In my Product Line Management class, I had to create and design a graphic t-shirt for an individual based on their interests. After this we had to style an entire outfit for them and create an editorial of them in this look. My t-shirt says "Be yourself everyone else is taken" and I took the photos of my model, Rachel Scardapane, on the Atlantic City boardwalk.
H&M Plus Size Expansion Project
This is a project completed for my Buying class. I had to come up with a white space opportunity for a company that I researched. I researched H&M and decided their white space opportunity was to improve their plus-size offerings in store. The project includes assortment, target market, opportunity financials, social & marketing, customer experience, distribution, and competitors.
Posters Under the Dome
I was chosen as one of the students to present my garment at Immaculata University's annual Posters Under the Dome event. My first step was to create a Rapunzel inspired mood board. Next, I created my garment. After this, I had a photo-shoot wearing the garment. Finally, I used some of my pictures from the photo-shoot to create a magazine spread.
United by Blue T-shirt Design Project
My group members and I created t-shirt designs for United by Blue, a sustainable outdoor apparel and accessories company, after extensive research on the company. Our "All Hands On Deck" themed shirts were inspired by United By Blue's dedication to cleaning up waterways. We were able to present to representatives from United by Blue to be critiqued.
This semester-long project consisted of research and product development for the sleepwear company, Komar. My partner and I had the idea of creating a capsule sleepwear collection by Komar for Lush, a natural cosmetics company. Lush is known for their self care and nighttime care products. They have products specifically designed with sleep-enhancing ingredients such as lavender, cocoa butter, and chamomile. By combining these products and our proposed apparel, we will be providing the full circle of self and sleep care. Through this collection we aimed to help Komar reach their goals of attracting the millenial customer and penetrating more globally.
